Let’s be honest, we all love going out to eat. However, eating out can often derail our healthy eating habits. If you’re trying to eat healthier, there are a few things you can do to make sure you don’t lose ground.
First, try to stick to restaurants that serve healthy, whole foods. This way, you’ll know that you’re getting a nutritious meal, even if it’s not exactly what you would have made at home. Secondly, take a look at the menu beforehand if needed, and don’t be afraid to make substitutions. Finally, remember that portion control is still important when you’re eating out. If you’re full, take the rest home with you. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy dining out without compromising your healthy eating habits.
Though we often discuss meal prepping at home, the truth is that we also eat out quite frequently. Recently, we enjoyed a meal at the Rusty Pelican. The views of the water were simply beautiful, and the atmosphere was perfect for my husband and me to relax and unwind. With so many menu options available, you may be wondering how I choose what to order when dining out.
First and foremost, I always consider what my options are when it comes to making healthy choices. I also always take into consideration the unique flavors and ingredients that a particular restaurant is known for. For instance, the Rusty Pelican is famous for its fresh seafood. Therefore, ordering something like grilled salmon would be a great way to experience the best that this restaurant has to offer. Ultimately, when it comes to ordering out, I believe that it’s important to find a balance between indulging in your favorite foods and making smart choices that will support your overall health and well-being.
First, knowing a balanced diet includes some sort of veggie, protein & carbohydrate; allows me to browse the menu and come up with any questions I need to bring to the server’s attention. I like to think of it as being mindful of what I’m eating and making small tweaks here and there to make sure I’m getting the nutrients my body needs. A common question I have is how is the food cooked? Is it fried? Or is it grilled? It allows me to make substitutions such as dressing on the side, limiting the salt, skipping the croutons, and adding some fruit.
Once you have a good understanding of what a balanced diet looks like, you can start browsing restaurant menus with confidence. The truth is, we can’t live our lives in a bubble and that’s okay! Though, by making some simple substitutions, we can still enjoy going out to eat without sacrificing our health. Keep in mind that it’s okay to enjoy occasional treats. Just because you’re trying to be healthy doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun!
If you aren’t much of a restaurant person, but you love a good Winery – there are healthy options for Wine dining as well! Wine has been around for centuries and is known for its health benefits. However, wine is also high in sugar, which can be detrimental to your health.
Luckily, there are now many brands of healthier wine that are low in sugar and calories. These wines are made with natural ingredients and are free of preservatives. They are also fermented for a shorter period of time, which prevents the formation of harmful compounds. Furthermore, healthy wines contain higher levels of antioxidants, which have numerous health benefits. A few brand examples of these low-sugar wines are PURE, and Sunny with a Chance of Flowers. So, next time you are looking for a healthy drink option, reach for a bottle of healthy wine.
Remember, you don’t have to give up your social life just because you’re trying to maintain your healthy eating habits. With a little bit of planning, you can enjoy your night out without feeling guilty about what you ate. So the next time you head out for dinner, keep these tips in mind and order something that will help keep your health on track.
