We seem to have become a society where many of us trudge through our day feeling sluggish and wishing for just a little bit more pep in our step. We may find ourselves reaching for that third cup of coffee or that energy drink to give us the jolt of energy we so badly crave. Unfortunately for us, these very things may leave us feeling more tired over the long term. Below are some healthier ways to create and gain sustainable energy to help you get through the day with vitality and focus.
It is recommended by the CDC that adults should sleep about 7 hours a night to maintain good health and prevent exhaustion. Lack of sleep can lead to an increased risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, etc.
Going to bed and waking up roughly around the same time is a great way to maintain your body’s circadian rhythm (this controls your daily schedule for sleep and wakefulness). Before bed, take some time to wind down by reading a book, taking a warm bath with your favorite essential oil, or simply drinking a cup of your favorite non-caffeinated tea.
Studies have shown that maintaining an active lifestyle has proven to help combat fatigue and increase energy levels. A good way to maintain an active lifestyle is to exercise on a regular schedule, about 2-3 times a week.
Some other ways to incorporate being active in your daily lifestyle include taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking to a nearby destination instead of driving, and taking small breaks if you work from a desk to stand up and walk around.
Maintaining a balanced diet can contribute to higher energy levels. Food is our main source of energy and choosing to eat healthy, nutritious foods gives our bodies the nutrients it needs to function well. Constantly eating processed foods can contribute to low energy throughout the day. It is also important to make sure you are eating enough food throughout the day.
We become physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted when overloaded with work. To prevent the exhaustion that comes along with constantly working, try to take breaks in between work. Take a step away from your work, even for a few minutes to gather yourself. If you are constantly working throughout the week, take some time out of your weekend or day off to relax and focus on regathering yourself.
When energy levels are high, we can accomplish so much more. Whether it’s a multitude of tasks at work or managing the needs of a family, we feel more like we can conquer the day when we are energized
